2001 Census: Education 2001
Preface
Education contains final statistics from the Census of Population and Dwellings held on 6 March 2001. It is one of a series of reports that provide detailed statistics on the characteristics of New Zealand's population, households and dwellings.
The information in this report covers the topics of educational qualifications and study course attendance. Qualifications information is provided for highest secondary school qualifications, post-school qualifications and highest qualification. Post-school qualification data is available by level of attainment and field of study (subject). Field of study information may be presented as either broad field of study (eg health) or narrow field of study (eg nursing). All tables in this report relate to the census usually resident population count aged 15 years and over (ie adults who normally live in New Zealand and who were in the country on census night). Where appropriate, equivalent tables are provided for the Mäori ethnic group population.
Statistics New Zealand makes census data available to a wide range of people. The data is important to planners and policy-makers, researchers, community groups and the general public. A range of information from the 2001 Census has been published and is available free on the Statistics New Zealand website. More information will continue to be published and made available free on the website throughout 2002. In addition to published statistical information, Statistics New Zealand can provide customised information to meet the specific needs of users.
Statistics New Zealand acknowledges the contribution of New Zealanders in their overwhelming support of the 2001 Census, and of the large number of people involved in planning, collecting, processing and using the information.
