External Migration: December 2002 Year

    • Total passenger arrivals and departures numbered 6.82 million, up 4 percent on the December 2001 year.
    • One-third of visitor arrivals were from Australia (632,500).
    • The top 10 source countries contributed 1.60 million or four-fifths of all visitor arrivals.
    • Australia was the main destination for half of New Zealand resident short-term departures.
    • Permanent and long-term arrivals exceeded departures by 38,200 in the December 2002 year.
