    • In 2004, total passenger arrivals and departures numbered 8.33 million, up 17 percent on the December 2003 year.
    • Almost half of all visitor arrivals were from Australia (855,900) and the United Kingdom (283,700).
    • The top 10 source countries contributed 1.88 million visitors, four-fifths of all visitor arrivals.
    • Australia was the main destination for half the New Zealand resident short-term departures.
    • Permanent and long-term arrivals exceeded departures by 15,100 in the December 2004 year.
