New Zealand Now - 65 Plus (Census 96) (1998) - Reference Reports
What It's About

New Zealand Now - 65 Plus is one of the New Zealand Now series (1998 Edition), a set of books which introduces and discusses a diverse range of topical New Zealand subjects - such as Mäori, children, families, housing and education.

New Zealand has a growing number of people aged 65 and older and this group is expected to increase dramatically in the next few decades as the working-age population ages. This book examines the characteristics of New Zealand’s elderly population of today and discusses the projected growth of elderly in New Zealand in the future. A range of topics are discussed including; age and sex, ethnicity, living arrangements, housing and income.

This book is designed to raise awareness of the elderly as an active and diverse group of New Zealanders, and updates and extends our earlier New Zealand Now report, based on the 1991 Population Census.
