Electoral Profile (1998 Boundaries) (1998) - Standard Tables
What It's About

This publication contains final statistics from the 1996 Census of Population and Dwellings, New Zealand's 30th national census, held on 5 March 1996. It is one of a series of reference reports which provide detailed statistics on the characteristics of New Zealand's population, households and dwellings. The information in this report covers a wide variety of demographic, social and economic statistics for each of the 61 general electoral districts and six Mäori electoral districts based on the 1998 electoral boundaries. There are 20 tables based on census data in this report. A comparable report from the 1996 Census based on the 1995 electoral boundaries was published in March 1998.

These population statistics cover all people usually living within an electoral district, not just eligible voters. Therefore, these statistics do not exactly describe the voting population, which is a subset of the larger usual resident population.

Statistics New Zealand gratefully acknowledges the participation of everyone in New Zealand in supplying information for the census. This report will introduce users to the extensive range of census data which is available.
