Births - additional tables

"Demographic Trends 2002" contains 15 tables on fertility and two tables on pregnancies. They include:

The following Excel file contains age-specific fertility rates for the total female population (by single years of age) for the December years 1962–2002.

The following Excel file contains age-specific fertility rates for the Mäori and non-Mäori female populations (by single years of age) for the December years 1996–2002. (These revised rates have derived from 2001-based population estimates.) Comparable fertility rates prior to 1996 are not available for the Mäori or non-Mäori female populations because of a change in the ethnicity question asked on the birth registration form. The new question introduced on 1 September 1995 is based on the concept of self-identification, and may result in more Mäori births than the previous degree-of-blood question. As a result, any change in fertility patterns may reflect definitional changes rather than an actual change in fertility.
